Despite the absence of Genie, JLG and a number of other access equipment manufacturers, the access community put on a good show with a number of interesting and innovative new products. Access International's editor Maria Hadlow picks some of the highlights from the show.
Dutch transport specialist, Nooteboom, has added a low-cost version to its range of semi low-loaders for transporting access platforms and telehandlers.The semi low-loaders have a specially reinforced chassis for highly concentrated loads, a hydraulic load floor and axles with hydraulic steering.
Terex AWP is consolidating its European parts and machine distribution activities at a new facility in the Netherlands through a five year outsourcing contract with global logistics specialist CEVA Logistics.
Access exhibitors were in short supply at SED this year as the recession hit the exhibition hard. The number of exhibitors overall was down over a half to around 210 and access suppliers almost entirely deserted the show, with Skyking, Niftylift, Hinowa and mast climbing/hoist supplier and rental company BFT among the small number of access suppliers attending.

Intermat saw the latest in Skyjack's growing range of rough terrain articulating booms. The SJ51AJ offers a 15.58 m (51 ft) platform height 9.16 m (30 ft) outreach and a 7.63 m (25 ft) up-and-over height. It's most notable characteristics include continuous 3600 turret rotation, true vertical rise, direction sensing controls and the "Detroit-locker" style drive system.
Skyjack was still teasing potential customers with the prototype of its SJ 16 vertical mast lift at Intermat. There will be two machines in the range the SJ 12 - 3.6 m (12 ft) platform height - will be sold worldwide while the SJ 16 - 4.8 m (16 ft) - will only be offered in Europe. The machines will be available from the end of this year.
The Monkey Tower, trailer-mounted scaffolding system manufactured by UK company Monkey Tower has been taken on by UK Rental company Speedy Hire.
