Powered access and lifting specialist Hird in the UK has taken delivery of its first truck mounted platforms from Oil & Steel.

Based in Hull, the recently appointed distributor is reintroducing the Italian equipment brand back into the UK market after an absence of around five years.

The Scorpion 2013 telescopic boom and Snake 2010 H Plus articulating boom models are the first models being offered by the new dealer.

Phil Hird, managing director at Hird, said, “Oil&Steel truck mounted platforms are designed to be easy to use, with excellent safety features and smart controls that make working at height easier and faster.”

With a maximum working height of 19.9m and an outreach of 12.5m, the Scorpion 2013 is based on a 3.5 tonne Iveco chassis that can be driven with a standard car driving licence. Alongside the three-part telescopic boom model, a Snake 2010 H Plus was also delivered to Hird.

Fitted on the same Iveco chassis, the Snake 2010 H Plus articulating platform can be deployed in a number of configurations for applications with limited space. It has a working height of 20m and an outreach of 10m.

The distributor said, “We’re confident our Oil & Steel platforms will do very well in the UK market. There is strong demand for a vehicle that can provide working at height at multiple locations in one shift.”

Hird, which is also marketing Oil & Steel Octopus tracked spider platforms, became a dealer for the Modena-based truck mount manufacturer back in August 2020.

Oil & Steel's Snake 2010 H Plus articulating boom lift Oil & Steel’s Snake 2010 H Plus articulating boom lift is one of two machines delivered to UK distributor Hird.

Described as a “return to a strategic market”, Oil & Steel said the appointment of Hird would contribute to the internationalisation of its brand.

According to the manufacturer, infrastructure projects such as the UK’s 5G communications programme and the management of ash dieback, are contributing to the country’s growing truck mount market.

Hird is expected to launch a new UK website for Oil & Steel products later this year. It is also planning a road trip tour of the country to demonstrate its new models to customers.
