Acme outfits fleet with Topcon telematics

Acme Lift Co, the US aerial platform re-rentals company, has upgraded its fleet of large platforms and telehandlers with a telematics system from Topcon Positioning Systems Inc.

"Acme Lift pioneered the use of telematics, rolling out the first GPS-based tracking system in 2003," said Woody Weld, Acme Lift's chairman and chief executive officer. "We are thrilled to move to the latest generation of telematics, allowing us to further enhance our commitment to the best customer service."

Acme Lift, based in Mesa near Phoenix, has fitted its machines with compact, second-generation Topcon Tierra devices, which gather machine locations, operating hours and engine information, sift raw machine data and provide immediate alerts and useful reports.

"With 100 percent of our fleet tracked by Topcon Tierra, we have real-time visibility to not only pinpoint the location, but the ability to manage our maintenance intervals and automate the scheduling of our maintenance , annual inspections and transportation activities, which equates to a better overall experience for our customers," said Steve Nadelman, Acme Lift president and chief operating officer.

Topcon Tierra also has security features and generates reports that make it easier for Acme Lift to continue to provide the quickest delivery times of reliable, late-model machines to customers.

Topcon Tierra hardware capabilities are easily upgraded via the cell phone network worldwide.

The Topcon Tierra devices are coupled with Tierra Web Service - an Internet-based user interface where the Acme Lift team can generate reports and configure alerts.
