UK access rental company AFI has acquired Light Hire, a 100-unit access rental business with a depot in Exeter.

Light Hire will become part of AFI's A J Rentals division, with the Exeter operation joining A J's depots in Swansea and Caldicot, both in Wales, which run 500 machines.

Brian Light, who founded Light Hire in 1996, will remain involved with the business on a consultancy basis.

The deal follows days after AFI acquired Instant Training, which will "substantially expand" AFI's training operations.

The purchase prices were not disclosed for either of the transactions.

AFI director Nick Selley, said: "Light Hire is highly regarded for the quality of its equipment and high levels of customer service. Its fleet has been well maintained and has benefited from on-going investment.

"The acquisition is good news for Light Hire's customers because we can offer them a UK network of 18 depots and access to a fleet of over 4500 machines and a comprehensive range of industry accredited training courses.

"This exciting news comes just days after our acquisition of Instant Training, which will substantially expand our training business, and is a further demonstration of how AFI's strong financial position is allowing us to capitalise on opportunities in the market."

AFI will continue to use the Instant Training name, its training team and its contact telephone number.
