Boom and scissor lifts from UK-based AFI are helping to paint the Grade II listed Tees Newport Bridge red and silver to mark its 80th anniversary.

Wood Group Industrial Services rented 12 scissor lifts and 20 boom lifts to help carry out structural repairs, deep cleaning and painting of the 82 m road bridge links that links the towns of Middlesbrough and Stockton-on-Tees in the UK’s North East. All the boom lifts are fitted with the SanctuaryZone secondary guarding device.

AFI undertook site surveys to help specify the boom and scissor lifts required for the contract and also provided machine familiarisation to Wood Group Industrial Services personnel.

Wood Group Industrial Services Technical Director Brendan Fitzsimons said, “We hired an assortment of boom lifts ranging in size from 45 ft to 135 ft and Skyjack scissor lifts, mainly 50 ft, to provide our contractors with safe and speedy access to the bridge structure. We asked for SanctuaryZone to be fitted to the boom lifts as it is our company policy to always specify this particular secondary guarding device.”
