Italian access equipment manufacturer Airo has appointed a new technical director.

Gian Luca Bulgarelli, a longstanding professional in component design for lifting equipment, joined Airo Tigieffe on 10 May 2021 as the company’s new research and design director, reporting to Simone Pignatti, managing director of the Luzzara-based company.

At the same time Airo anounced that Gianluca Ferramola, the company’s head of R&D for almost 30 years, had left the company to embark on a new career path at Italian crawler mounted specialist AlmaCrawler. “The company expresses its heartfelt thanks to Gianluca Ferramola and wishes maximum success in his new challenge,” said Airo.

Bulgarelli will be responsible for the development of new technologies and aerial platform models, heading up and continuing the innovative work carried by the existing design team. There will be a particular focus on green energy solutions with zero emissions, zero noise and low maintenance.

Apart from defining new projects and equipment the work will include the optimisation of the company’s existing ranges and managing the design team. Previously, Bulgarelli had ten year’s experience at a major producer of automated guided vehicles (AGV) and lifting equipment, and is familiar with managing complex design challenges, and international teams of employees.

Stefan Weber, Airo sales manager, said, “We are delighted to have Gian Luca Bulgarelli in our team. Known and respected in the wider equipment sector for his professionalism and decades of experience, he will give Airo a further push in accelerating our future projects.”

Bulgarelli added, “I am very happy to have joined Airo; we have many new ideas and I’m happy to be able to develop new projects with such a motivated and positive team.”
