Last month Italian manufacturer Barin delivered three bridge inspection units, AB6.5 Combi to Vietnam for bridge maintenance

The machine is a new multi function concept for bridge maintenance, especially designed to be used by the railway service. It can reach 11.5 under the bridge and the same height overhead.

The machine is mounted on a Volvo FM 300 4x2 truck chassis equipped with special railway trolleys, which permit the truck to slide all along the rail tracks.

The transport height of the unit is 3.6 m in the road transport position and 3.9 m in the railway transport position. The transfer speed of the unit in road transport position is up 90 km/h.

The upper structure is a bucket-type aerial platform which can work both underbridge and overhead. Horizontal reach under the bridge is 6.5 m with a maximum depth of 11.5 m and maximum overhead reach is 11.5 m. The machine can overcome bridge barriers 3.8 m high and walkways 5.2 wide. On the road the machine occupies only one traffic lane being 2.5 m wide allowing the traffic to flow in the other lane.

The machines have been put into operation at the customer's RPMU (Railway Project Management Unit) job site under the Hanoi-Ho Chi Minh city railway line bridges safety improvement project.

RPMU's overseeing authority is the Vietnam Railway.

The AB 6.5 Combi machines have been sold to the customer through Barin's Vietnamese agent Itochu Corporation based in Japan.
