Boels buys into hybrid truck mounts

Boels Rental has started renting hybrid truck mounted platforms following the completion of a successful testing phase in the summer.

The pair of truck mounts from Multitel Pagliero, offering working heights of 18 and 27 meters, have a unique hybrid system that allows them to work for up to eight hours on a single battery charge, says Boels.

The propulsion system uses both a conventional combustion engine and an electric motor, improving fuel efficiency and reducing environmental impact.

“The truck mounted platforms run on diesel, while the boom is operated electrically. Once the machines are in place, there is no need to run the engine. In this way it is possible to work cleaner and quieter than with conventional truck mounted platforms that always depend on the diesel engine of the truck,” said Marco Hopstaken, who works at the Boels depot in Velddriel. “The hybrid truck mounted platform is a necessary step towards an emission-free construction site.”

The 18m Multitel truck mount has an outreach of 13.2m with a lifting capacity of 80kg. The maximum lifting capacity is 250kg, possible at a 9.1m reach. The boom rotates 400 degrees, while the self-levelling platform can rotate 180 degrees. The 27m unit has an outreach of 16.4m and a lifting capacity of 230kg.

According to Boels, an increasing number of users prefer electric or hybrid machines for indoor and outdoor work. “Electrical work is slowly but surely being integrated into the construction sector,” said the company, “The hybrid truck mounted platforms are therefore used for various activities, such as window cleaning and tree pruning.

Users require a machine that is able to cover large distances between projects. Boels added, “Once at their destination, they can carry out their work without any problems using the electrical power of the battery. More importantly, truck-mounted platforms provide a safe way to work at great heights, reducing the risk of workplace accidents.”
