A Youngman BoSS X3X-SP self-propelled micro access platform has been chosen by Leeds City Council in the UK for use at its new Corporate Records Management Facility.

As part of a major project to centralise all its paper records, Leeds City Council has converted a former transport workshop into a dedicated storage facility with the capacity to house 30500 document boxes on a 6-high racking system.

In order to place and retrieve the boxes from the top three levels both safely and efficiently, the Council chose the Youngman scissor lift for its compact dimensions and ability to easily lift an operator plus four boxes - each weighing up to 12kg, helped by the use of a 0.4m long platform extension.

Supplied by Access Platforms Sales of Huntingdon, the BoSS X3X-SP has a safe working load of 150kg and an overall width of just 0.76m, making it easy to drive and precisely manoeuvred by the operator even at its full working height of 5.14m.

Commenting on the Youngman platform, Neil Platts, records manager at the new facility said, "The unit is proving to be perfect for our application and will help Leeds City Council's aspiration to achieve significant office accommodation efficiencies during the coming months, with over 10000 boxes planned to be transferred to store by April 2013."
