Italian scaffolding and formworks specialist Pilosio International presented its Building the Peace award to Cameron Sinclair of Architects for Humanity at the Bauma exhibition, held in Germany in April.

Now in its third year, the Pilosio Award aims to recognise those working to improve the lives of others through building and design.

“The 2013 Pilosio Award is presented to the architect Cameron Sinclair for the commitment and innovative nature with which the foundation he represents, Architecture for Humanity, is contributing to the reconstruction of Haiti following the tragic earthquake of 2010,” said Pilosio’s CEO Dario Roustayan.

“Our foundation does not just intervene to build, but also to create culture and professionalism in the world. It isn’t earthquakes that kill people, but badly designed and constructed buildings. To prevent any more disasters, the local population needs to be trained and this is what Architecture for Humanity does. The people in the countries where we intervene, following a war or natural catastrophe, don't ask us for a house, they ask for a job. And that’s exactly what we do: we create employment and professionalism, getting the local people working, and that way they have hope for a better future,” explained Sinclair on receiving his award.

The "Building Peace" Award stands for culture and enterprise, an event that hosts globally renowned guests, business gurus and professionals, and showcase examples of excellence in the industry. It culminates in the presentation of an annual award to those individuals or companies behind those infrastructure, urban redevelopment, regeneration and restoration projects which have contributed to the improvement of living conditions and promoted interchange, tolerance and peace among peoples.
