Cologne renovation test for Kiloutou

Kiloutou has been brought in to support a major renovation project in Cologne.

The new concrete and glass elements of the WDR film house’s facade, weigh almost 3,000 tonnes in total and a have been put into place using the French rental company’s fleet of aerial platforms.

Kiloutou works on the facade of the WDR film house in Cologne.

As one of the city’s most high-profile construction projects, the West German Broadcasting Corporation’s (WDR) film house was built in 1974, in downtown Cologne. The renovation was originally scheduled for completion at the end of 2020 after it began in 2017, but with numerous unexpected challenges, the reopening has been put back to Spring 2024.

Successfully fixing the glass and concrete elements of the attractive new façade has been one of the major tasks for Kiloutou, with safety being the highet priority.

“The decision for Kiloutou was the logical consequence of our positive experiences with this provider in previous projects,” said construction manager Markus Rohloff, from Implenia, the construction company overseeing the project.

Following a successful test phase in Autumn last year, Kiloutou is providing eight MEWPs for the facade work, including two scissor lifts, two articulated telescopic platforms and a pair of telescopic platforms, along with two electric spider lifts, ceiling support equipment and tools.

The use of the equipment in Cologne is being supported by Kiloutou’s branch in the city, just one of the rental company’s 570 locations across Europe.
