One of the UK’s largest structural steelwork contractors is expanding its powered access fleet.

J&D Pierce Contracts has invested more than £700,000 in 10 rough terrain big boom lifts from authorised Genie dealer Access Platform Sales (APS). The order includes six telescopic booms; two S85s with a maximum platform height of 25.9m and four 21.8m Genie S65s. The remaining four are articulating booms – two Z80s and two of the recently-launched Genie Z62 machines.

The Ayrshire-based company made the investment to meet its growing UK-wide contracts and to reduce its expenditure on hiring in access platforms. The deal includes a comprehensive support package from APS’ sister company, PSR.

Genie supplied the machines painted in J&D Pierce corporate colours of white and orange. PSR fitted each platform with Infobric smart card readers, which help to improve site safety. Infobric ensures that the boom lifts can only be used by an authorised operator with a valid IPAF licence. It also enables remote monitoring of the machines.
