CW Plant makes first acquisition in Australia

UK-based equipment rental company Charles Wilson Engineers (CW Plant) has acquired Australian Boom & Scissor Lift (ABS) in Sydney, New South Wales.

Founded in 1997, ABS provides a powered access service across metropolitan Sydney as well as long-term rental solutions in the Blue Mountains, Wollongong, Central Coast and Newcastle.

The company, which will retain its name and branding as part of the Charles Wilson group, has a fleet of more than 300 machines, including diesel, electric scissor lifts and booms and electric vertical lifts with platform heights of up to 10 m.

CW Plant said the self-funded deal, its first move in Australia, is part of a wider plan to expand both geographically and its range of equipment.

David Gallagher, CEO, CW Plant, said, “Australian Boom & Scissor has an exceptional reputation within the market and the company is a perfect fit for Charles Wilson, as an integral part of our lifting and access business. This is really positive first move into the Australian market.”

In the last year CW Plant has also acquired UK-based companies MTS Plant Hire and M&J Hire. The company said it is “actively seeking further growth opportunities, leading to additional expansion in the future” and has set out a target of £100 million revenue for the future.
