Demand for super booms rising in Spain

Genie is reporting a growing demand for super-high reach booms in Spain, following a number of recent orders made by equipment rental companies across the country.

Over the past several months rental specialists Europlataformas 2000, Claveria Servicios, Grúas Estación, and Mainsa have all expanded their fleets with aerial platform models offering working heights of up to 57m class.

Europlataformas 2000, which is headquartered in Córdoba and specializes in personnel lifting applications in central and southern Spain, recently added several of the manufacturer’s 43-m SX-135 XC model machines and a number of the Genie SX-180 units to its fleet.

The SX-180 model is a telescopic boom lift with a working height of 57m, making it the tallest machine in the Genie range.

José Antonio Saez, Managing Director of Europlataformas 2000, said, “The main factor that ultimately drove us to get these models was their ease of operation and transportation. They weigh less than 25 tonnes and can be transported without any special permits or restrictions here in Spain.”

Likewise, Claveria Servicios and Grúas Estación also added the Genie SX-135 XC unit, which boasts “enormous horizontal reach of 27.5 meters and telescopic jib with a length of almost 10 meters”, as did Mainsa Plataformas - a Cantabria-headquartered that specializes in personnel lifting equipment.

Mainsa’s managing director, José Antonio Gutiérrez, said, “It’s an important investment for us, and we’re tremendously proud of it.

“Mainsa’s goal is to provide the best access solutions out there, and thanks to distinguishing characteristics, such as a large basket capacity of 454kg and an extending telescopic jib with a length of 5.48 to 9.14 metres, this model should enable our customers to carry out specialized work that previously required other solutions that were more expensive and less efficient.”

Commenting on the recent sales, Rubén Lorenzo, Genie Sales Manager for central and southern Spain, said, “There were a number of reasons why they decided to get this model, but it goes without saying that the versatility behind its telescopic jib played a key role in their decision.

“The Jib-Extend feature allows extension to a length of almost 10 meters, making it possible to get over eaves and other obstacles in work environments. It can also retract to just over 5 meters and be positioned below the boom in the stowed position, making transportation easier.”
