Global access statistical exchange discussed by IPAF and AEM

08 October 2008

IPAF and the US Association of Equipment Manufacturers (AEM) are discussing the possibility of creating a global statistical exchange for the aerial platform industry.

AEM is already running an exchange for the North American aerials market, but the two organisations are now looking at ways to extend the exchange worldwide.

The aim of such a statistical exchange would be to provide manufacturers with global, aggregated production figures for different categories of aerial platform. Manufacturers submit data which is then totalled and distributed to all participating companies. Manufacturers get the total market data without revealing their own figures publically.

IPAF managing director Tim Whiteman said; "We are holding very positive discussions with AEM with a view to creating a global statistical exchange for the benefits of all our members. The whole industry is crying out for hard facts."

IPAF used the recent APEX show in Maastricht to discuss the statistical exchange with its members, particularly those in Europe who are not yet participating in the AEM scheme. Access International understands that most manufacturers were positive about the proposal.

Any AEM/IPAF statistical exchange would be a positive step for the industry. It is over 10 years since the previous EMI (Equipment Manufacturers Institute) statistical scheme broke down.
