The Arboricultural Association in the UK has published an operator's guide to safe use of mobile elevating work platforms during tree surgery. The publication is the Arboriculture MEWP Operators Guide (AMOG) 2008: Safe Use of Mobile Elevating Work Platforms (MEWPs) in Arboriculture.

The document was developed in conjunction with IPAF (International Powered Access Federation) and describes good practices for the use of MEWPs in arboriculture. It "...will help those in the field meet their legal obligations and to operate safely," said IPAF. The guide is the result of collaboration with the industry and contains information from research by the UK's Health & Safety Executive.

"Tree surgeons working anywhere in the world should read this guide. It will help you to work more efficiently and safely," said IPAF managing director Tim Whiteman.

The guide can be purchased from the Arboricultural Association for £10 (€12.6) plus postage and packing. Order at: www.trees.org.uk/publications.php or by calling +44 (0)1794 368717.
