Hewden is buying 200 new vans for its national service network.

UK rental company Hewden has launched 24-hour breakdown service to minimise the costs and inconvenience of equipment downtime for its customers.

Hewden said the service has been developed in response to changing working patterns of its customers and is available throughout Great Britain, 365 days of the year.

Stuart Wild, area operations manager for Hewden, said: "The traditional ‘Monday to Friday' working hours are becoming a thing of the past. Customers are now working longer and in some cases, particularly in the events industry, they're working throughout the weekend too.

"In the event of a breakdown, the new 24-hour service gives customers the peace of mind that their plant and equipment will be returned to safe operation promptly at a very competitive price, anywhere in Great Britain."

As part of the initiative, Hewden has invested in more than 200 new service vehicles, including the Volkswagen Caddy and the Ford Transit Trend.

Hewden said the vans have been fitted with professional racking and restraint straps, as well as full steel bulkheads. These features will help the company meet Freight Transport Association (FTA) recommendations on the safe loading of vans.
