Lift Safety Zone to offer tips, advice and more at ConExpo

20 December 2010

Located in the Silver Lot at ConExpo in Las Vegas on March 22-26, the Lift Safety Zone is geared toward anyone working with aerial work platforms or cranes.

Representatives from the International Powered Access Federation (IPAF), the Crane Certification Association of America (CCAA) and the National Commission for the Certification of Crane Operators (NCCCO) will be on hand to answer questions from show-goers along with live machine demonstrations and the latest in simulator technology. IPAF will be using "dynamic demonstrations to show visitors how to assess ground conditions and take appropriate safety measures when using aerials," the Federation said.

"Safety is our priority and should be the priority of all those operating and managing AWPs," said Tony Groat, executive vice-president of AWPT (American Work Platform Training), the North American subsidiary of IPAF. "One of the potential hazards associated with AWPs is tip-overs and inadequate ground support is one of the causes. We want to raise awareness of the weight imposed by AWPs that must be addressed to ensure adequate ground support."

An IPAF demonstration will take the theme of: "How much does the lift weigh? Is your machine on solid ground?" and will show how ground pressure varies when a lift is in different positions and highlight what can be done to provide appropriate ground support.
