Manitou North America has appointed Shawmut Equipment as its new equipment dealer in the Northeast region.

Shawmut was founded in 1957 as a crane distributor and now provides rental and sales services in Connecticut and Massachusetts in the US, as well as in the Canadian provinces of Nova Scotia and New Brunswick.

Its deal with Manitou will see the company add two of the manufacturer’s product lines to its rental offering; the MHT Heavy Capacity Telehandler range and the MRT Rotating Telehandler range.

The telehandler models, which cover lifting heights of between 15m and 35m, will be available from the company’s three branches - alongside cranes, construction telehandlers and forestry equipment from manufacturers such as Manitowoc, Grove, Prinoth, and Potain.

Scott McGuigan, Managing Director for Manitou’s Eastern region, said, “It is with great pleasure that I welcome Shawmut Equipment to the Manitou dealer channel.”

A third generation, family-owned company, Shawmut Equipment will represent the Manitou products in the states of Massachusetts, Connecticut, Rhode Island and Vermont.

“Shawmut’s dedicated sales staff and factory trained technicians will be a tremendous asset to our customer base in the New England area. We are fortunate to add such a strong and successful dealer to our network,” added McGuigan.

Joseph Vergoni, Vice President of Shawmut Equipment, said, “The Manitou product line will be an excellent compliment to our existing equipment lines, giving us an opportunity to serve new customers and explore new markets. We are looking forward to a long and successful relationship with Manitou.”
