By Murray Pollok04 February 2022

The access community in the UK and wider afield is mourning the loss of one of its most vivid characters with the passing of Martin Davies.

Martin, who worked in the construction equipment sector for more than 32 years, was best known internationally from his period as Managing Director of Skyjack Europe, where he worked for almost 12 years between 1994 and 2006.

He subsequently worked for Equipment Parts Wholesale (EPW) and Thermoil Europe before spending the last six years of his career with Bob Francis Crane Hire Ltd and latterly Graham Jones Cranes.

The list of companies he worked for tells a small part of Martin’s story. All those who came into contact with him could not fail to remember his high good humour, his mischievousness and his talent for friendship. It made him great and unpredictable company.

Peter Douglas, Managing Director of IPAF, said; “We were shocked and saddened to hear the news of Martin’s passing, a great industry character, full of life and enthusiasm for whatever he was doing.

“I met Martin mainly at IPAF events or trade shows, but remember how he could hold court within a group with his stories and his big personality, He is a great loss to our industry and the world and at such a young age.

“From all at IPAF we send deepest condolences to Martin’s family, close friends and ex colleagues.”

Martin passed away on 23 January after a period of illness.

Access International adds its own condolences.
