Methodology

The IPAF Rental Reports have been produced by Ducker Worldwide based on primary research with industry participants. Well over 100 interviews were conducted with European rental companies, manufacturers and other industry experts. Limited secondary data has been used, as no official statistics are available on the MEWP rental market.

The rental companies interviewed represent a cumulated market share of more than 45% of the estimated MEWP rental market in the target countries. These companies comprise both specialists and generalists, small and large players.

Only companies for whom rentals represented at least 5% of total revenues were interviewed; similarly, generalist rental companies were only included if MEWPs represented at least 5% of their rental revenues. Moreover, only persons involved in machine selection or management were qualified as respondents.

The rental company interviews have been the basis for an extensive quantitative analysis using a complex weighting system by company size and segment. To explain the quantitative results and put them into perspective, interviews with manufacturers, associations and specialised media have provided in-depth qualitative insight.

The study scope covers the full range of powered access equipment (booms, scissors, vertical masts; both self-propelled and other). For the purpose of this report, rental revenue has been defined as comprising of rental rates as well as all rental-related services (delivery, training, operator charges etc.), but excludes cross-hire and resale of used equipment.
