Premiered at last week's CTT Show in Moscow (June 17 - 21) was Italian manufacturer Safi's new Universo, a combination mast climber work platform (MCWP) and a hoist for people and materials, all of which use a common mast.

The Universo S, which is made of "heavy-duty" steel, is available as single (one 5.5 kW engine) or twin mast (two 5.5 kW engines) machine. The single mast can carry two people, with a maximum payload of 1500 kg, while the twin mast can carry four people or 3600 kg.

Using 1.5 m long mast elements, which weigh just 102 kg, gives a maximum lift height of 200 m for both configurations. Maximum travel speed for both is 9 m/min. The single mast platform is 9.8 m long, while the twin mast can carry a 31.1 m long platform.

The Universo MC 1500 (5.5 kW) and MC 2000 (7.5 kW) are suitable for use as goods hoists. Maximum payload for the MC 1500 is 1500 kg, while the MC 2000 is capable of carrying 2000 kg. Cage dimensions for both are 3 by 15 by 1 m, while the maximum travel speed is 12 m/min.

The Universo AS 1500 (two 9.2 kW engines) and AS 200 (three 7.5 kW engines) are a combined materials and people hoist. Maximum payload for the AS 1500 is 1500 kg, while the AS 2000 is capable of carrying 2000 kg.

Cabin dimensions for both machines are 3 by 1.5 by 2.3 m, while the maximum travel speed is 34 m/min.

Speaking to AI at the show, Mario Bellato, Safi's area sales manager, said Safi had worked hard with its Russian dealer LTech and its CEO Mikhail Malvinsky to produce a machine suitable for the local construction and equipment rental market.

"Right now this is a product where the price/quality correlation is good for the Russian market. But because we have combined one machine in three, which means it covers several sectors from maintenance to construction work, and is particularly suited to the rental market, I expect to see us launch it elsewhere very soon," he added.
