Rail boom lift first for Indonesia

A delegation of officials from Indonesia’s sole public railway operator PT Kereta Api Indonesia (known as KAI) and railway supply company CBP has visited the factory of Italian aerial platform manufacturer Platform Basket, to see the first of a new boom lift model now being introduced to the Indonesian rail market.

Described as an “attractive prospect” for the country’s rail sector, the delegation inspected the RR14evo rail boom lift at Platform Basket’s factory in Poviglio.

The RR14evo, which is fitted with both tyres for off-highway applications and rail wheelsets that work on tracks with a cant of up to 200mm, has a maximum working height of 14.1m and a top outreach of 9.3m.

It is available in Stage V-compliant diesel powered and diesel plus lithium-ion battery powered versions, the latter of which provides zero-emissions operation and allows the machine to be used in areas with strict pollution regulations.

According to manufacturer Platform Basket, the RR14evo is primarily designed to for heavy maintenance powerline work at high level, and as such it said to be fully compliant with railway regulations “in all countries”.

Key features of the RR14evo are its three-person, 400kg capacity basket, a rotation of +/-180 degrees and the incorporation of large-section copper cables that “minimise electrical resistance between the aerial basket and the railway wheel.

The model also comes with remote control operational capabilities and is available with a range of accessories, such as a galvanized basket and braking support for carriages up to 10 tonnes.
