Spain starts work on MEWP operator training standard

08 November 2010

Spanish standards institute AENOR has started work on the new standard for training of mobile elevating work platform operators.

An AENOR technical committee meeting took place on 4 November in Madrid at which it was agreed to start work on agreeing the criteria for MEWP operator training in Spain.

The AENOR working group comprises national experts from the powered access industry, including distributors, manufacturers, training and rental companies. Also participating is the International Powered Access Federation (IPAF).

IPAF said it was pleased to be participating and would be sharing its knowledge and experience from its own MEWP operator training programme.

"The Spanish Health and Safety at Work Act currently makes no mention of the basic requirements for sufficient and appropriate training of MEWP operators", said IPAF in a statement, "This situation has created some uncertainty and confusion in the Spanish market, where training courses are delivered to varying standards of quality."
