Swedish city Örebro's technical department has seen huge demand for its Hiab HiPro crane with mobile elevating work platform (MEWP) since acquiring the vehicle from Cargotec Sweden in 2011.

The crane, fitted with a personnel basket, has been called upon to assist with construction projects, signage installation and work in the city's parks, according to operator Sebastian Söderlund.

The Hiab HiPro undergoes changes when used as a MEWP. Its crane speed is reduced and the crane moves at a vertical speed of 0.4m per second.

The MEWP includes an automatic horizontal levelling of the basket, external safety rails to protect it from crushing, a battery charger and a back-up battery mounted in the basket, vertical and rotational speed controls, and a separate push button emergency stop in the personnel basket.

It is also equipped with stabilisers, an emergency lowering facility and a manual emergency pump.
