UK company orders 103 m Wumag
By Murray Pollok19 September 2008
A UK company has ordered a 103 m truck mounted platform from Wumag Palfinger, with delivery in a year’s time. It will be the first 100 m machine to operate in the UK, although an Irish crane rental company, McNally's Crane Hire, expects delivery of one of the WT1000 models before the end of the year.
The identity of the UK buyer is being guarded closely by Palfinger and its UK dealer, Skyking, which is the truck mounted access division of King Highway Products. However, there is speculation that the customer is a UK crane rental company that is involved in wind turbine construction and maintenance. Neither Palfinger or Skyking would confirm this.
The 103 m machine will be the largest in the UK, with Zenith’s 90 m Bronto model the next largest. The customer will also be buying five other Wumag models, from 40 m machines up to the 103 m unit, bringing the total value of the order to £5 million. The contract brings to over £10 million the value of orders for Wumag taken by Skyking in the last 12 months.
