JR Flat Roofing is working from specially designed truck-mounted scaffolding to carry out work on the M1 motorway services at Trowell

JR Flat Roofing, based in Cornwall, UK, is applying a new roof on the Moto footbridge at Trowell for Moto Hospitality Ltd, using a unique scaffolding approach provided by Heritage Scaffolding.

The footbridge offers a pedestrian route from the north and south bound Trowell service areas, across the busy M1 motorway near Nottingham. JR Flat Roofing is charged with laying the 175-m2 roof in just one week.

The job will require the M1, one of the UK’s busiest motorways, to be shut while JR Flat Roofing carries out the work. The team will work from specially designed scaffolding, which sits on a truck, to enable it to be placed on the motorway lane. The motorway will be closed one lane at a time between 1-pm and 4am from June 7 to 14.

Nick Rogers, managing director for JR Flat Roofing, said, "Many areas of our work involve overcome challenges, but this one has been particularly interesting as we have needed to arrange lane closures on the M1 with the Highways Agency. A lot of hard work and planning has taken place over the past 12 months to ensure the job runs smoothly, but all the foundations are now in place and we are looking forward to completing the work."
