UK company Aldercote has built a 13.5 m platform onto a LDV Maxus 3.5 t, long wheelbase panel van providing the customer with greater payload on the vehicle.

The customer, Access Hire Nationwide, is the largest van mounted hire company in the UK.

The platform was developed in conjunction with them as a viable alternative to the standard van in the 3.5 t weight category - the Ford Transit.

The new van mount gives 13.5m working height with 6.4m outreach and a van payload of 500 kgs which is more than a Transit.

Richard Breeden, sales manager of Aldercote said, "The first one built went straight out on hire, I believe to a street lighting contractor, and Access Hire Nationwide have hires already for the next two when delivered.

Aldercote introduced it first platform into the market place five years ago and the range has expanded to 14 models ranging from 8.5 to 16.5 m, including platforms mounted onto Land Rover Defenders and jackless platforms. "We have over 200 units in the market place and have taken on European dealers and are seeking more," said Mr Breeden

Aldercote has also developed new concepts which include an insulated platform of 46KV giving extra protection when working near live electricity cables and platforms that allow the operator to go from the driver's seat through the van and straight into the platform which means he does not need to step into the road.
